Is this a good method of training a cat for bad behaivor?
Question by Lea: Is this a good method of training a cat for bad behaivor?
I just got a kitten…and he likes to chew on electrical wires…scratch the sofa, and climb on the kitchen counters. I do not spank him because I think that could make an aggressive cat out of him but I have been spraying him with a water bottle. It seems to work. Do you think that is bad to do that?
He has all kinds of toys…I bought him a ton of them..but he still does bad things.

I used the water bottle method, and it worked beautifully! But I didn’t live in a carpeted apartment until my oldest was about 5 years old, and he always had scratching posts made of carpet, so as you can probably guess he started tearing it up! At that point after he was so old, the bottle didn’t work, so I just started putting him in the shower for about a minute. He learned real quick not to scratch the carpet. Also, to help with the furniture scratching, you can put double sided tape on the corners of your couch, or chair they are scratching, and it doesn’t feel good on the pads of their paws. That’ll stop them. They also make scented sprays that only smell bad to cat’s. I hear they work well.
