Anybody have firsthand experience training your cat to walk?
Question by Kami: Anybody have firsthand experience training your cat to walk?
My cats used to be outdoor kitties but I moved near a busy street. They are indoor now, but I feel bad they can’t go outside anymore. They are both about 2 years old and I would like to train them to take walks. I have gotten information from this site: http://www.catsinternational.org/articles/training/walking_your_cat.html
I’m interested in hearing any tips or experiences if you’ve successfully trained your cat to walk.
Yeah, I know it’s going to be difficult. Believe me, I’ve already tried. I have a balcony I let them out on though with plants. They like to lay out there in the sun and check out the street.
I already have all the harnesses and stuff. drugs store They are accustomed to them and have walked around the house with them on all day.
Yeah, I might be able to do the kitty walk with my male cat without a leash in a park or something but the female needs direction. Wow, all of you have been so helpful! Thank you so much for the ideas!
I took the male out today on a hike. He just followed me like a dog and that worked out real well. I need to see if my calico will be the same.

My cat was an outside cat until he was about six month. After we moved, he had to be strictly indoors. Every time i would put a leash on him, he would crouch down and wouldn’t move. It’s going to be really hard to get them used to a leash now that they’re 2. I had no success whatsoever. Good luck to you. I felt bad, too, that he couldn’t go outside, but they get over it. Buy on of those cat-tree things that they can climb up and down. Have toys that they can chase. They won’t miss the outdoors after a couple of months.
