Unlike what I see most cats do my cats (well actually just of the the cats-a male) will attack me full force when I do it. Is that normal? How else can I train him?

I’ve found that you can train a cat with patience and the use of the word “No” in a firm voice. Not shouting, but loud and firm. Cats have very good hearing, and will pay attention to this.
You have to be consistent. For instance, if you cat attacks your feet, stop what you are doing, put your hand in the “talk to the hand” position and say “No”. Then move away from the cat. Continue as needed. The main point is to be consistent. If there is a behavior that you don’t like, don’t reward it with attention sometimes and say ‘No” at other times.
I’ve had cats all my life, and they have trained me, and I have trained them. I realize that I can’t keep bamboo plants in the house, and they don’t sharpen their claws on the furniture.
